June 15th Updates
This week the working group discussed agricultural chemicals and determined that language relating to use and safety of agricultral chemicals was important despite the fact that there is a wide and established body of law regulating ag chem use in the United States and within individual states. While the language is still being perfected this decision reflects that the scope of the document will extend beyond microbial food safety issues.
You can review the state of the discussion by looking tat the notes from the last call and the current document. The next call (scheduled for June 19 - you can register here) will review these changes and press on in the document to address other issues including worker health and hygiene.
We have a few calls left and an entire parking lot of issues to get back to as well. I would like to suggest that we set up some separate calls for those interested to try to resolve issues that have been parked and begin bringing back recommendations to the larger working group on some of the "parked" issues. If we have time - we can discuss this proposal as well on the June 19th call.
